I was formerly a member of a knight order, groomed for leadership. I have experience in educating. In navigating politics. In fighting.

I have great respect for what Altus Pavus and Knight-Captain Hill are doing, but it is a step too large for some to take without fear. I thought to offer an alternative. I can't train mages in magic as it's practised here, but I can teach your mages to protect themselves in ways they might not have considered. To use their bodies in concert with and as alternative to their power. I can offer guidance. I have time on my hands and the skills required, I'd offer myself as a useful tool.
We need that. [Pel gives a firm nod.] Dorian held something like that, but it was only the once. We should always learn to use the tools we have, and most of us carry around a great bloody stick. And it's a better alternative self-defense to using magic. If someone corners me in a dark alley, I'd rather not use magic to defend myself. And it would make us more useful to the Inquisition. Mages are effective in battle at range, but we're quickly overwhelmed in a melee. If you make that change, the Inquisition's forces will be that much more powerful.
His work is becoming more specific - I don't think he should be expected to do all of it. ( a bit wry. divide and conquer, as it were; dorian and maria can make progress with those who are ready for that much progress, and martel can look to those who aren't, yet, but can't afford not to be doing something. ) I have begun teaching my lady LeBlanc some of what I intend to offer in lessons,
