( though pel had not been on the very short list of people adelaide thought might tolerate him long enough to speak on his proposal - there were only two, and only one of them actually on the council - martel takes it upon himself to find out the names of the elven councilors and seek one of them out. he hasn't made a great show of his interest in the elves, but -

they remind him of a part of his home that he misses more fiercely than any other. it is worth pursuing. )

My lady Ashara, ( a recognisable voice, perhaps, from the first meeting of mages, where he had looked down from the library's balcony and contributed when adelaide prompted him to. ) I am Martel. One of the 'rifters'. When you've the time, I have a proposal that I mean to make to the Council and I am seeking the thoughts of those more intimately involved in this world than myself.

I would welcome yours.

( a slight retooling of his approach will be necessary, he thinks. not less courtesy, but different; he can afford not to worry quite so much about the polish.

thank god for that. )

Where best suits you, Councilor?

( he doesn't make her wait.

...and he is damned hard to miss upon approach even aside from the rift shard in his hand, aristocratic and dangerous in the way he moves, broad-shouldered and more than a foot taller than she is. his mode of dress is simple, close-fitting and slightly favouring the orlesians of his acquaintance; he has adapted to thedas, determinedly.

his eyes are dark, but only in colour - his expression is not unfriendly, just hard to call warm. )

Councilor, ( by way of polite greeting. she'd seemed a bit off-guard with 'my lady'. ) Martel. May I join you?

( that he bows over it rather than shaking it is instinct, old learned habits rearing their ugly, courtly head - but he doesn't go quite so far as to kiss her knuckles, releasing her hand as he straightens and smiles back at her, small and reserved but somewhat softening the harsh lines of his face. )

The offer I make, ( as he sits down, with her but not occupying her space, ) regards the younger mages, primarily. The less experienced.

I am a mage myself, of a sort. As my attendance to your Council may have indicated. But where I'm from, it means something very different - in terms of practicalities, I have more obviously in common with the Templars. I was formerly a member of a knight order, groomed for leadership. I have experience in educating. In navigating politics. In fighting.

( the latter is wry. it's hard to miss the military bent of him, even at a glance. he knows. )

I have great respect for what Altus Pavus and Knight-Captain Hill are doing, but it is a step too large for some to take without fear. I thought to offer an alternative. I can't train mages in magic as it's practised here, but I can teach your mages to protect themselves in ways they might not have considered. To use their bodies in concert with and as alternative to their power. I can offer guidance. I have time on my hands and the skills required, I'd offer myself as a useful tool.

His work is becoming more specific - I don't think he should be expected to do all of it. ( a bit wry. divide and conquer, as it were; dorian and maria can make progress with those who are ready for that much progress, and martel can look to those who aren't, yet, but can't afford not to be doing something. ) I have begun teaching my lady LeBlanc some of what I intend to offer in lessons,

( with a hint of approval in his tone - both for adelaide's willingness to learn and pel's endorsement of his ideas. everyone likes people that agree with them, it's human nature. well; human. he can't speak for elves, but he imagines it's not so different. )

And I believe she sees the worth in it.
